Over ten years ago, while visiting the Staten Island, New York elementary school that she attended as a child, LISA QUIROZ was inspired to create TIME for Kids, a current events magazine geared specifically to elementary school kids. Today this magazine, with a circulation of over 3.5 million, continues to win accolades and Ms. Quiroz continues to advocate for quality education for children and youth.  Since graduating from Harvard University and Harvard Business School, Ms. Quiroz, of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent, has also fought for professional advancement of minorities and women. She was the founding publisher of  People en Español.

While at its helm, People en Español, became the best-selling Hispanic magazine in the United States and topped Adweek's "10 Under 40 Magazine" Hot List for outstanding advertising sales and circulation growth for three years in a row. In December 2003, recognizing Ms. Quiroz’s numerous talents, record of achievement, and leadership, Time Warner created a new position specifically for her.  As Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, she is tasked with determining and implementing the strategic direction of the company’s philanthropic efforts in the areas of education and the arts.  She is also responsible for creating the company’s new social responsibility guidelines and reporting, as well as determining employee-based volunteer initiatives. In the three years, since her appointment, Ms. Quiroz has been highly successful in directing Time Warner’s philanthropic efforts where they are most needed and for encouraging volunteerism among its employees.

Currently, Ms Quiroz serves on the boards of the Knowledge Works Foundation, the College Board, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Hispanic Federation.  She is also a member of the New York City Commission on Human Rights and a David Rockefeller Fellow for the Partnership for New York City.   She has also served as Co-Chair of the Latino Commission on Media and Entertainment.  Numerous awards have been bestowed on Ms. Quiroz for her advocacy on behalf of minorities in business and as a role model for women including the 2002 Hispanic Heritage Award for Leadership and the 2004 New York Women’s Foundation’s (NYWF) Celebrating Women Award. She was inducted into the Hispanic Scholarship Alumni Hall of Fame in 2003 and was chosen as one of Crain’s New York Business 100 Most Powerful Minority Business Leaders.
